In today's fast-paced world, where convenience often takes precedence, the art of cooking with fresh ingredients can easily be overshadowed by the chaos of daily life. As a result, food waste has become a pressing issue, impacting not only our wallets but also our planet. At DetectFresh Technologies Inc., we recognized this challenge and took it upon ourselves to create a solution that not only reduces food waste but also enhances the culinary experience in every kitchen.
The idea for DetectFresh emerged from a personal struggle that many can relate to. As a chef, I’ve always been passionate about cooking and ensuring that my family enjoys nutritious, home-cooked meals. However, when my daughter moved abroad, she found it difficult to keep track of the fresh produce she had purchased. Often, ingredients would expire before she had a chance to use them, leading to unnecessary waste and frustration.
It was during one of our conversations that the concept for DetectFresh was born. I realized that if we could develop a tool to help people manage their groceries more effectively, we could make a significant impact on reducing food waste. With this vision in mind, I reached out to Dr. Kazal Kanti Dan, a close family friend and a medical professional with extensive knowledge in health and nutrition. Together, we began to lay the foundation for what would become DetectFresh Technologies Inc.
Recognizing the need for a strong business acumen to turn our idea into a viable product, we brought on board Swapan Kumar Bairagi, a seasoned professional with a keen eye for business strategy. The synergy between our diverse backgrounds – culinary, medical, and business – allowed us to create a well-rounded team dedicated to solving the problem of food waste.
Our startup officially launched in 2022 in Bangladesh, where we began developing the DetectFresh app. The app is designed to provide users with recipes tailored to the ingredients they have on hand, particularly those nearing expiration. By doing so, we empower individuals to make the most of their groceries, minimizing waste and maximizing the nutritional value of their meals.
Since our inception, DetectFresh has garnered attention from investors and stakeholders who share our passion for reducing food waste. One of our most significant milestones was meeting Megan Tuck, General Partner at Zoey Capital VCC Inc., during a Karman Line Acceleration event. Megan’s belief in our vision and her investment has been instrumental in propelling DetectFresh forward, especially as we set our sights on expanding into the North American market, starting with Canada.
We’re also actively seeking a physical office space in British Columbia, a strategic move that will enable us to better serve our growing user base and foster collaborations with local partners. As we continue to refine our Minimum Viable Product (MVP) and enhance our offerings, our goal remains steadfast: to provide a seamless, user-friendly experience that helps people manage their food more effectively.
